Virtual World Teaching

Description:
The certified bearing course (CBC) in "Virtual World Teaching" is jointly orgainized by the department of Applied Social Sciences and Educational Development Centre. The course will provide for participates an overview of using Virtual Worlds for blended Teaching and Learning. Focus will be on practical examples in use from a PolyU perspective and how it can be further elaborate to fit with multidiscipline.

Session 1

  • Hands-on introduction to Second Life (SL) and Reaction Grid (RG)
  • Guided tour of different SL sites
  • Guided tour of the SL and RG campuses
  • Small tasks (avatar customization, familiarization, etc.)

Session 2

  • Teaching in a Blended Environment
  • Samples of lesson plans and student assignments
  • Student evaluation in virtual environments

Session 3

  • Review and critiquing of participants' lesson plans
  • Integration of lessons into larger curriculum
  • Planning of concrete next steps

Let's tour around PolyU's virtual campus @ "Second Life"

Description:
"Monthly Happy Hour Gathering for PolyU Alumni", a regular event organized by PolyU Alumni Affairs and Development Office (AADO). In the gathering, we will tour alumni around the PolyU's virtual campus in "Second Life". Alumni can visit a brand new alumni building, namely "Alumni Tower", and see how to do networking and sharing with other alumni, both local and overseas, through this interactive virtual communication platform.

The scope of SLActions
The metaverse is emerging, through the increasing use of virtual world technologies that act as platforms for end-users to create, develop, and interact, expanding the realm of human cooperation, interaction, and creativity. The conference focus is scientific research on applications and developments of these metaverse platforms: Second Life, OpenSim, Open Croquet, Activeworlds, Open Source Metaverse, Project Wonderland, and others, providing a forum for the research community to present and discuss innovative approaches, techniques, processes, and research results.
